Travel & Accommodations

Location

The University of California, Davis (UCD) will be our home for the Workshop when we are not engaged in field study. UC Davis is located in Northern California amid a lush, tranquil setting less than 15 miles west of the state's capital, Sacramento, and 72 miles east of San Francisco.

Accommodations

Single occupancy rooms are being secured for our NEH Summer Scholars in UC Davis campus housing. Please note that housing expenses for UC Davis will be deducted from your stipend (approximately $105/night).

Accommodations are offered on a "package plan" basis which includes room, daily meals provided by one of the nation's award-winning collegiate dining programs, linen & housekeeping services, 24-hour desk support, laundry facilities, adjacent parking, and use of UC Davis' premier fitness center and pool facilities.

Transportation

UC Davis is located about 20 miles from the Sacramento Airport (SMF), about a 20-25 minute drive. Lyft/Uber or Yolo Bus (~$2.25, routes 42A and 42B) are the cheapest and easiest options for getting to/from the Airport. We recommend communicating using the workshop’s Facebook page both before the workshop and during to work out carpools. Please plan to arrive book flights arriving by 2 pm on Sunday and departing Friday after 4pm, do not count on an earlier flight.

The Amtrak station is located in Downtown Davis, about 2 miles from the dorm for those wishing to visit the San Francisco Bay Area before or after the workshop. If you fly in and out of the Bay Area, consider Oakland Airport instead of San Francisco Airport. It is located on local public transportation (BART), which connects to Amtrak, and it is a small and easily accessible airport that often has cheaper flights.
